We are affiliated to the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and are founder members of the Cleveland Scientific Institution

CHANGE OF KEY SPEAKER AT THE GREAT DEBATE Dateline: 9th March 2012
Due to circumstances beyond our control there has had to be a change of key speaker at the CIE Great Debate.
Unfortunately Dr Colin Heron is unavailable, but the CIE is delighted to announce that Dr Steve McDonald, the CTO of Emerging Technologies at NAREC is able speak at the debate.
All are most welcome to what will be a most stimulating debate on Tuesday 13th March 2012 at Teesside University

IOM3 MEMBERSHIP CLINIC ANNOUNCED AT TATA STEEL RD&T TEESSIDE TECHNOLOGY CENTRE Dateline: 2nd March 2012
The CIE will be hosting a membership clinic at the Tata Steel Research, Development and Technology Teesside Technology Centre in March on the afternoon before the CIE Great Debate!
The event will be attended by Sarah Boad, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining's Membership Development Manager, and will be held on Tuesday 13th March 2012.

Timings are not finalised yet but the clinic is likely to be from lunchtime onwards.

If you are interested in seeing Sarah please contact Johan van Boggelen or Sarah Boad
Sarah can discuss all aspects of IOM3 membership including joining, upgrading, accreditation of qualifications plus anything else to do with IOM3.

WINNER ANNOUNCED OF THE IOM3 YPLC Local Heat Dateline: 18th February 2012
The CIE is pleased to announce the winner of the local heat of the IOM3 Young Person's Lecture Competition.
There was stiff competition in the session held at Teesside University of Tuesday 14th February 2012, with four lectures of a very high standard being presented.
After much deliberation the judges awarded first prize to Mr Adam Broughton of Tata Steel Research Development & Technology first prize of £100 from the CIE - well done, and good luck in the regional final!
The runner up, Paul Wiggins received second prize of £50, and Efosa Obasohan and Nick Bruce both received prizes of £25 for their presentations.
All the presentations will be made available on the website as soon as possible.

CHANGE TO PROGRAMME Toaster Lecture cancelled Dateline: 5th December 2011
Due to circumstances beyond our control the Thomas Thwaites Toaster Lacture has been cancelled.
To replace this event the CIE is delighted to be hosting a lecture on the groundbreaking Low C steelmaking technology developed under the HIsarna project. More details to follow.

Transporter bridge celebrations gather pace! Dateline: 13th October 2011
The CIE is pleased to promote a special event to celebrate the centenary of the Transporter bridge taking place in October.
There is a light show on the bridge every night from Monday the 17th October until Sunday 23rd October
There is music available for people to download onto their mp3 players, which, if they set going at exactly 8:30, will be synchronised with the show.

Transporter bridge lecture added to the 2011/12 programme Dateline: 10th October 2011

The CIE is delighted to announce that, in the centenary year of this iconic teesside landmark, Dave Allan, author of "The Transporter - 100 Years of the Tees Transporter Bridge" will give a presentation based on the history of this famous bridge.

The lecture takes place on Tuesday 13th December, see the events page for more information.
This is instead of the Annual Award presentation, which will not be given this year as no papers of suitable quality were received by the judges.
