Annual Dinner Collection in Aid of Zoë's Place, Middlesbrough

The collection at this year's dinner will be in aid of the Zoë's Place Baby Hospice.

Welcome to Zoë's Place Baby Hospice - Middlesbrough

Zoë is the Greek word meaning 'gift of life', and here at Zoë's Place we believe that life is precious no matter how long it lasts.
Zoë's Place is a home from home for babies who have life limiting or terminal illnesses, special and complex needs to varying degrees.
Zoë's Place can take up to six infants at any one time, there is also accommodation and ample facilities for the whole family if these are needed.
We receive very little Government funding, therefore we rely on the generosity of the public to help us raise the £1 Million a year we need to keep the doors of Zoë's Place open for the many families that rely on our expert care.

Information about Zoë's Place

Zoë's Place is unique we are one of only two Baby Hospices in the whole of the country. We only care for infants from birth to five years of age.
  • All our services are free to the families that use them.
  • There is open access to the service.
  • Zoë's Place has no set catchment area.
  • Zoë's Place Baby Hospice is a Registered Charity.

    Mission Statement.

The hospice's philosophy is that all life is precious no matter how long it lasts. Each individual is afforded respect and dignity regardless of gender, race, culture, religious beliefs or disability.
Our aim is to provide holistic family care in a safe, consistent, home from home environment. Infants come to Zoë's for one to one nursing, respite and palliative care and to maintain their lifestyles as if at home through play, touch and stimulation, making everything they do as much fun as possible.

    History

Zoë's Place Baby Hospice was founded by our present Chairman of Trustees, Professor J.J. Scarisbrick. He identified that a large number of families, with children suffering from life limiting or life threatening conditions were in desperate need of specialist facilities where their children could receive respite, palliative or terminal care.
Even more important it was recognised that families most needed this facility during the early years of their child's life.
Consequently the idea of a Baby Hospice was born and fittingly the name Zoë's Place was chosen.
The first Baby Hospice was opened at Liverpool in 1995 and in 2004 Zoë's Place here at Middlesbrough , was able to open the doors and welcome our first special babies.

    The Building

    The Building
The Sisters of Mercy offered the Building to Zoë's Place Trust for use as a Baby Hospice in 2000.
Refurbishment started in December 2001 and ten new rooms were created downstairs. The babies area has five themed rooms with six therapy cots as well as a large play area, a soft play area and, the very popular light sensory room.
There is a staff common room, utility room, administration area and a very large meeting/conference room.
On the first floor there is a self contained apartment available for use by the families. This comprises of two family bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge, shower room, a disabled toilet and an appropriately furnished "bereavement room". Experience has shown that this is a huge help to grieving parents and families, at a time which without doubt, is one of the worst moments of their lives.
In addition there is also a beautiful calming peaceful chapel.
Teesside members of the Rotary Club will be collecting during the dinner

    Please give generously.

    The CIE Annual Conference

    conference poster
Processes have become ever more complex and are operating at ever increasing temperatures, pressures or through put rates in order to maximise productivity and minimise unit cost.
To ensure that these processes are well controlled and operated in a safe manner, safety has to be part of the design stage of the process.

This conference will highlight and discuss several processes and design methods focussing on inherent safety of the operation.
